Cynthia S. Chiu, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Cynthia Chiu is a comprehensive ophthalmologist with expertise in  sutureless and small incision cataract surgery, femtosecond  laser-assisted cataract surgery, premium artificial lens technology (including toric, multifocal, and accommodating lens implants), medical glaucoma, diabetic eye disease and eye trauma. Her research focuses on the outcomes and complications of cataract surgery. Dr. Chiu joins our practice after a decade of service as full-time faculty at the University of California San Francisco, where she was Professor and Director of Comprehensive Ophthalmology and Optometry.  During her tenure, she also served as Assistant Residency Program Director and Medical Director of the Diabetic Retinal Telemedicine Project for the San Francisco Department of Public Health. Dr. Chiu has been recognized nationally for her expertise in medical and surgical education and has won multiple awards for resident teaching.  She is also a committee member, course director, and surgical instructor in numerous national ophthalmology organizations and programs, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Board of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the Harvard Intensive Cataract Surgical Training Course, and the Lancaster Course in Ophthalmology. Dr. Chiu is excited to join the East Bay Eye Specialists, a practice  that she feels is a regional center of excellence for eye care in the  Bay Area.  She is committed to quality patient care, communication and  coordination with referring physicians, and outstanding surgical  outcomes.
